I'm thinking of getting a dog and never had one before
I walk a lot and need the devotion.

Nothing too big and nothing too small and yappy. Something in the middle, what do you reckon?

Next door have a goldador (never knew such a thing existed) and that seems about right.

Thoughts?

Ted

Thats what we bought, the cordless one.

Mine moults all year but has two or three major moults which last weeks. I even brush her twice a day when moulting but there is still hair everywhere everyday.

No problem as all the floors are hard surfaces downstairs and we don't let her upstairs.

Re: I'm thinking of getting a dog and never had one before
All breeds of dog have been genetically engineered by humans through selective breeding processes.

Creating a new breed, the labradoodle was deliberate as they do not moult, and are less of an irritant to people with allergies as well as the fact that labradors a bit like flat matt paint, the best base to mix from as their is already a lot of variation within the breed.

Been watching Crufts last few days... the report they done on French Bulldogs was an eye opener... people buying from abroad .... blue/greys and mottled... which are basically Frenchies bred with Boston's... going for upto £4k a pop!!! Reckon deformities galore with these as well... eastern European gangs galore running the show!!!

Hate all these that say, I've got a labradoodle or whatever, unless you've got a pure bred dog you've bought a fucking mongrel who's owner saw you coming.

Yep - get to choose it / know it some , at a rescue centre. Mate of mine just done that and Clarkie has settled in really well with their kids.

One dog they nearly got showed itself to be problematic with kids so it was important to know that ahead (in case you have kids.)

Re: I'm thinking of getting a dog and never had one before
goldador , cockerpoo etc = expensive mongrels

Fact, the dog reported for the most bites on people?...........Brown lab.

Fact a proper Alsatian is not a Big dog

But I would advise very strongly to go to a rescue centre and find the perfect pooch.

Muted dogs? If only they all were.

Re: I'm thinking of getting a dog and never had one before
Female dogs are as bad as the males, as soon as they come on heat, they become obsessed with dog cock, and when they find it, it’s about 30 seconds on foreplay arse sniffing and few licks then its tails up for a good hard shag and good chance you got the headache of puppy’s in a few months time.

Get the fuckers desexed or get one from the rescue already muted, life as a dog owner is far more peaceful.

I'm a proud owner of a German Shorthaired Pointer just watched the gundog final at Crufts judged by a sour faced lesbo looking prick.
There were some handsome looking dogs in display the judge picked a a long haired shitty looking nudgers mutt that looked like it would shit it's pants at the first sight of a mouse.
It turns out the "judge" had connections with the breed she picked.
Modern day dog oscars are fucking shit.

Cheers, very interesting (and no, I never thought I would write that).

Grist to my mill though, as the benefits are far from clear.

This, however, is perhaps a little too much: '...there’s even a dog castration video for you to watch if you want to.'

Re: I'm thinking of getting a dog and never had one before
Gelded male dogs make the best dogs. FACT

Don't worry about the age. Many dogs get testicular cancer later in life and have to be neutered. he'll miss them for a few days bu that's it.

Their noses are 1000 times better than ours, he'll be able to smell the clunge a mile away ;o)

Nothing wrong with being a dog bore.

As I haven't yet replaced my little one 18 months on, I still go over the beach almost every day to get my fix of dog stroking.

Proper stalker me.

Re: I'm thinking of getting a dog and never had one before
So he's got a lovely coat..... but he's gonna end up in a nut house trying to get pussy through a electric fence.... fair do's

Mart O 6:14 Fri Mar 10
Re: I'm thinking of getting a dog and never had one before
That's my thinking too, CS, based on reading that when you first posted up the link. The effect on the coat isn't incidental either as his is one of his best features (yes, I am turning into a fucking dog bore). People comment on it all the time and I'd hate to see to see it lose its lustre.

I reckon the fence will stop him going out looking for vag, unless of course a bitch actually comes within sniffing range. Fear not, once I've sorted what seems to be the most reliable option I'll be back to bore you all shitless with the details.
